Meet the Teachers

Krist_casual.PNGDr. Phil Krist

Dr. Krist brings to each class he teaches a rich background in God’s Word and practical ministry. A summa cum laude graduate of Southeastern University, Lakeland, Florida, he received his Masters of Theology degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California and an earned Doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Boston, Massachusetts. One of Dr. Krist’s most exciting educational experiences though, were archaeological studies on a dig in Israel!

Dr. Krist’s ministry background includes being: a student ministries coordinator; a hospital chaplain; a youth pastor; a Bible college instructor and a Lead Pastor. He has been a speaker at both national and overseas conferences. Most importantly to Dr. Krist is the fact he’s Pastor Phil called to be Lakeside’s Lead Pastor.

Pastor Phil loves people and he has a consuming passion is to make an eternal difference in peoples lives for the glory of God. More than just learning, it’s Pastor Phil’s desire his classes provide fresh revelation of our God and His Word along with empowering experiences in His Spirit!

JONESArt & Gail Jones

Gail is an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal church and has been since 2012. Her duties at her former church were, in addition to preaching, the prayer of invocation which was a plea for the presence of God to come into their service. She also led the prayer meeting classes and incorporated meditation into the class. Gail and her husband Art have attended Lakeside since August of 2016 and have found the teaching to be both Word and Spirit filled! Since coming to Lakeside she has enjoyed the Pastors noon prayer meeting and the Wednesday night classes. Gail became legally blind in 1999 which was soon after the death of her mother and it was then that she came under the tutelage of a minister that introduced her to a new way of communing with God. She would sometimes get discouraged when reading became difficult. When a certain Pastor who supervised Gail encouraged her to start a prayer meeting. She was torn with the fact that her reading was slow and painful!

Gail said "God spoke to me and told me the He would help me! I believe that because of my sight, I was more eager to try to perfect this meditation as a way for me to “see” God and to help others. For many years I have met believers who say that they have difficulty in praying in public or they have a problem in quieting their spirit. I have had these same issues and the Lord has given me a way to overcome!"

rod and dawn.JPGRod & Dawn Davis

Rod and Dawn have attended Lakeside for four years. They have been involved in Lay Ministry, KidsZone, Vacation Bible School, Student Nation, Big Gives, Church Photography, Teaching and Set Construction. Dawn graduated from Bible college with over thirty credits in the Bible. Rod is a mentor to young men seeking spiritual growth and God’s direction in their lives. Rod and Dawn both have servants’ hearts, and together they study the needs of today’s Singles so they can be used by God in the Singles ministry.

Until Dawn met Rod in her 30s, she was a single Christian woman navigating the world’s view of a single woman.  She learned invaluable lessons from God’s delay in providing a spouse and she desires to share her learning with other Christian woman who feel the daily pressure to conform to the world’s view of singlehood. Rod has a genuine desire to share the Good News of Jesus with single men who desire to grow in their faith or who are having a difficult time discerning God’s plan for their lives.  Rod’s desire is to serve single Christian men who want to mature in their faith as they pursue God’s plan in their lives and train up spirit-filled men who rely on the Word when facing difficult times.

The church is a hospital, no one enters it whole.  Only Christ can heal and complete us.  Rod and Dawn's Mission is to create a Christ-centered community for Lakeside Singles to mature in their faith, develop lasting friendships, and serve our community. Their desire is to transform the Christian walk of Lakeside Singles, and teach Singles that they are complete in Christ, lacking nothing. Rod and Dawn's vision is to invite Singles to join the Friendship Connection Group as they are and embrace the changes Christ will make in their lives, as their faith matures and their commitment to Christ grows through studying of God’s Word.

Pat_Vandenburg.JPGPat Vandenberg

Pat has attended Lakeside for approximately 6 years. She has been involved in Junior Bible Quiz, Performing Arts, Big Give, Bread of Life and Youth Fine Arts.  She has a BA in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture from Madonna University. She has taught in various places, including Oakland Comunnity College in Farmington Hills. She also holds a M.A. ed from Saginaw Valley State University.

Pat has been in love with Sign Language since she was a little girl and was given a card with the alphabet on it. She had her first sign class in the 70's and felt an ache on her heart and knew she wanted to learn that language! Pat was seeking from God where her place was in the Kingdom of God, she got involved with a prison ministry where a young deaf man was incarcerated. She was very limited in her sign launguage abilities at that time and that's when God spoke to Pat, right there in that prision! God told her that this was the place He had called her... It wasn't the prision ministry, it was the Deaf ministry.

Pat has interpreted in a number of various places including Bethesda Christian Church, Memorial Baptist Church and for a Sandi Patti concert. Just recently she beautifully interpreted the song "We Shall Behold Him" at Lakeside Assembly of God. She has taught the "Praising Hands" class at differant institutions for over 30+ years and is excited to teach it at Lakeside.

There is another community within the hearing community, a silent community. Pat wants people to learn about them, their culture, and especially their language. The students will come away from her class enriched and their minds expanded. Who knows where this will lead for God's glory!
